Under resourced Individuals
Mental Health "Help Seeking" is influenced by caregivers and social networks. Individuals of lower socioeconomic status seek mental health care at a lower rate than individuals who are not in poverty.
Counseling under resourced clientsThe American Counseling Association (ACA) Advocacy Competencies (Lewis et al., 2002) represent the foundation for advocacy counseling and provide guiding principles for counseling in three domains: client/student, school/community, and the public arena. The abilities of culturally-sensitive counselors are based upon the understanding that advocacy-oriented counselors often choose to respond to the challenges of clients by becoming aware of external factors that inhibit their development; aligning with organizations and key stakeholders that seek social, economic, and political change.
